Sports betting illustration for the BetConstruct supplier profile

BetConstruct is one of the few suppliers that can equip almost every part of a gambling business, from a retail betting shop to a full online casino. This profile looks at where the company came from, who owns it and which of its betting products are most relevant to operators planning a launch.

BetConstruct at a glance

BetConstruct develops gambling software for betting shops, land-based venues and online casinos. The company traces its start to 2003 and has since spread its development and sales teams across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, with a presence in countries as different as Armenia, Malta, Latvia, Mexico, Peru and Taiwan. Its corporate base is in London.

Several things stand out for an operator doing due diligence:

  • Regulatory footprint. Over the years the group has held approvals in Malta, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Romania, South Africa and Curaçao, among others.
  • Independent testing. Its Sportsbook has been certified by Quinel M Ltd and tested by BMM, and the random number generator behind its games carries its own certification.
  • Scale. In early 2021 BetConstruct alone employed more than 1,000 people. It belongs to the wider SoftConstruct family, which at that point counted over 3,000 staff and 11 trademarks, including FeedConstruct, Fasttoken, Ucraft and FastShift.
  • Industry recognition. Its products have been honoured at ceremonies such as the SBC Awards, the Malta Gaming Awards and the BEGE Awards.

From Vivaro Betting to an international supplier

BetConstruct's story is tied to Vivaro Betting, an operator set up in Armenia in 2003 by the Badalyan brothers. Vivaro grew into Armenia's largest gambling operator, focused on sports betting and online games, and became one of BetConstruct's first partners. The first software the company built went live at VBet, the online brand that later became widely known in the region. Vigen Badalyan leads BetConstruct as CEO.

The company introduced itself to the wider industry in 2011 at a games show in Milan. Its stated goal from day one was to serve smaller operators that struggled to get the products they needed from the largest vendors.

How the product range grew

  1. By 2013: the Sportsbook for betting shops was joined by virtual sports, RNG casino games and a live casino.
  2. Next stage: skill games were added, together with licences from regulators such as the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission, the Alderney Gambling Control Commission and Romania's ONJN.
  3. Virtual reality: a VR casino let players explore interactive slot machines and a sports bar in 360 degrees using Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets and controllers.
  4. 2020: the Spring BME app launched as an industry news service covering casinos, regulators and sports betting, with a community hub where bettors could swap opinions and ask for advice.

Event sponsorships and a steady stream of launches have kept the brand visible at major trade shows ever since.

Who owns BetConstruct

Vigen and Vage Badalyan founded the business and still own it; it was their second gambling company after Vivaro Betting. BetConstruct trades under the parent company SoftConstruct Ltd, as does VBet.

Because the company is privately held and its shares are not traded on any exchange, it does not publish revenue. Outside estimates have put its 2017 revenue at no less than $44 million.

What the portfolio covers

The breadth of the catalogue is the main reason operators shortlist BetConstruct:

  • software for both online and retail operations, plus gaming hardware;
  • white label packages for brands that want to launch quickly;
  • marketing tools, data feeds and a back office alongside the game content;
  • Spring, an open platform for building and running gaming products;
  • niche verticals that few vendors offer, such as a VR casino, fantasy football and financial betting;
  • branding options, from branded tables and a dedicated live studio to a custom slot;
  • a social platform designed to bring in new customers;
  • products built to work on mobile devices.

Betting products in detail

Sportsbook

The Sportsbook covers more than 140 sports. At the time of the vendor's 2021 figures it carried over 75,000 pre-match events and around 45,000 live matches a month. Operators can choose between four interface styles to match their brand and audience, and the bet slip and dashboard are designed so that placing a wager takes only a few taps.

Player-facing features include Live Multiview, which lets a customer follow several matches at once, a live calendar, a results centre, cash out and the Superbet option.

Virtual sports

The virtual sports package runs eight disciplines around the clock, including football, tennis, horse racing, greyhound racing, car racing and cycling. Events are rendered in Full HD, a new match starts every two to three minutes, and the content is available in multiple languages and currencies. Bet limits and branding are set by the operator, and the product connects through an API.

Poker

The poker product offers Texas Hold'em and Omaha. Operators can brand the tables, place advertising and change language settings, and they can join the Global Poker Network and organise their own tournaments. Players can use a downloadable client, a desktop browser or a mobile device.
