Company profile
The registered name is Yggdrasil Gaming Ltd, but the industry knows it simply as Yggdrasil. Founded in 2013, the company opened offices in Poland, Sweden, Gibraltar and Malta within two years. Its main development office is in Krakow, Poland, and its headquarters are in Sliema, Malta.
Focus on slots
Video slots have always been Yggdrasil's strongest product. Earlier it also offered a few scratch cards and keno games, but these are no longer part of the portfolio. Concentrating on one category lets the studio put a high level of detail and quality into every release.
Table games came later. A 3D table game suite was announced in 2018, and several blackjack and roulette versions were added in 2021. Founder Fredrik Elmqvist has said the company does not aim to be the biggest supplier, but the best.
Awards and partnerships
Despite its relatively short history, Yggdrasil has won major awards, including Slot Provider of the Year at the International Gaming Awards five years in a row, the same title at the EGR B2B Awards in 2017, and Innovator of the Year at the International Gaming Awards in 2017 and 2018. Through its YG Masters programme, it also works with leading independent studios to co-create new games.

Software and slot mechanics
Yggdrasil's software is among the most advanced in online gaming. The centrepiece is iSENSE 2.0, which combines clean design, strong visual effects and high performance, so games look realistic and run without dropped frames on any device.
Scaling and performance are the two problems most tech suppliers wrestle with. Yggdrasil addresses them with the BOOST suite and cross-platform games that scale automatically.
Built for multilingual markets
Every game is available in more than 30 languages, a real advantage for operators serving several countries, whose players expect more than one or two language options.
Signature mechanics
- Splitz™: a mechanic with 200,000+ ways to win
- MultiMAX™: players build up multipliers on the reels
- Gigablox™: giant 6x6 stacked blocks land on oversized reels
- GigaRise™: special symbols raise the height of the reel they land on
Long-standing favourites include Jungle Books, Bicicleta and Joker Millions, along with the studio's table games. These slots show how far the technology has come, with detailed 3D animation, moving backgrounds and realistic sound.
Notable slots
The catalogue grew quickly in 2020 and 2021 and now includes more than 100 slots and a small set of table games, so slots remain the clear priority. Series and mechanics carry across many titles in our catalogue. The Vikings franchise runs from Vikings go Wild and Vikings go to Hell to Vikings go to Valhalla, while Gigablox appears in games such as 7 Gold Gigablox and 90K Yeti Gigablox, and Splitz in Temple Stacks: Splitz. That consistency helps operators build themed lobby sections and cross-promote sequels to players who liked the original.
Three releases that stand out:
Vikings Go Berzerk Reloaded
The fourth chapter of Yggdrasil's most successful series sends the Vikings back across stormy seas in search of treasure. It plays on five reels with 25 paylines, the maximum payout is €1,250,000, and the random Ragnarok Spin feature awards free spins and turns all high-paying symbols wild.
Valley of the Gods
An Egyptian slot on a 5x5 grid that starts with 45 ways to win. Each win removes symbol blockers and triggers a free respin with more symbols in play, until the grid opens up to 3,125 ways. Volatility is very high and RTP is 96.2%.
Holmes and the Stolen Stones
A Sherlock Holmes adventure on five reels and 20 paylines. The Free Spin jackpot game holds five local progressive jackpots. Variance is low to medium and RTP is 96.8%.
In-house technology
Yggdrasil stays ahead by following technology trends closely. Where many rivals rely on standard industry practice, its team builds both games and the software tools behind them:
- iSENSE 2.0: the foundation of every Yggdrasil game
- Infinite API: a gamification solution
- Fusion Realms: an in-game mechanic that combines different reel sets and features in one slot
- REDUX™: a table game technology that blends RNG and live casino techniques, such as motion capture, into immersive 3D games
How integration works
With any Yggdrasil integration, the games stay on the provider's servers and the casino sits between those servers and the player. Connecting each provider separately can be demanding for an operator, which is why a single, one-time integration through an aggregator is usually the most efficient option.
Mobile play
Yggdrasil moved from Flash to HTML5 in 2014, and since June 2017 every new game has been built on iSENSE 2.0. Mobile players benefit in three ways: auto spins no longer stop when a device goes to sleep, loading is faster, and the interface is easier to use on small screens.
BOOST promotional tools
Yggdrasil is known for promo tools that help operators build loyalty and keep players engaged. The BOOST platform includes in-game tournaments, Cash Race, Missions and BRAG, which lets players replay winning spins and share them on social media. Campaigns, tournaments and prize drops give operators further ways to grow revenue.
Licensing and security
Product quality and software security have been priorities from the start. Yggdrasil obtained its first licence in 2013 and added licences in the UK, Malta, Romania and Gibraltar over the following five years. Its games are also licensed in Italy, and an Isle of Man licence followed in 2019.
Independent auditors review the company's information security management system every year, and in 2021 it achieved ISO 27001 certification. Together with licences from the MGA, UKGC, Romania's ONJN, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar and other regulators, this gives operators and players confidence that the games are fair and safe.
