Eye in the Sky explained: how casino surveillance works

The eye in the sky is casino slang for the surveillance system: the cameras mounted in the ceiling, often behind dark domes, that cover every table, cage and slot bank. The phrase also refers to the team that watches the footage.

Surveillance staff work from a control room with live feeds and recordings. They look for cheating, advantage play, dealer mistakes and theft by players or staff, and they alert security on the floor when something needs attention. Footage also settles disputes about payouts and bets. Early systems relied on basic equipment, but today’s casinos use high-resolution digital cameras that cover almost every angle of the floor.

The online eye in the sky

Online, surveillance is software: risk and fraud tools monitor betting patterns, linked accounts and payment behaviour around the clock, with alerts and reports in the back office.
