Betting limits are the lowest and highest amounts a player may stake on a game or market. A bet below the minimum is not accepted, and one above the maximum is either refused or reduced.
Limits are not universal. They differ from one casino to another, between games, and even between two tables of the same game: a blackjack pit may run low-stakes tables next to high-limit ones for high rollers. Casinos can also adjust limits during the day as demand changes. In sports betting, bookmakers set limits per sport and market, and sometimes per customer, especially for players they consider sharp.
For online operators, limits are a commercial tool and a risk tool at once. Minimums shape who can play, maximums control exposure, and per-player limits support both fraud prevention and responsible gambling. See also table limit and maximum bet.
