Casino Glossary

Low Roller meaning: small-stakes casino players

A low roller is a player who bets small amounts, the opposite of a high roller. Where high rollers look for high-limit tables and maximum bets, low rollers stick to low-stakes tables, low-denomination slots and small online stakes.

Low stakes do not mean inexperience, despite the common assumption that low rollers are nervous beginners. Plenty of strong players choose small bets and grind their bankroll slowly rather than risk everything on a few big wagers. Apart from bet size, the biggest difference is treatment. High rollers get special attention and generous comps because of what they spend, while low rollers rarely do. Online, low rollers are a large part of the active player base, so low entry stakes, frequent small rewards and low-minimum payment methods all matter for retention.
