Craps explained: how the dice game works

Craps is a dice game in which players bet on the result of a single roll, or a series of rolls, of two dice. One player, the shooter, throws the dice, and everyone at the table can bet with the shooter (pass line) or against them (don’t pass), alongside a long menu of single-roll and multi-roll propositions. The game exists as informal street craps and as casino table craps, which is also offered online in RNG and live dealer versions.

A casino table is run by a crew. The boxman supervises the game and guards the bank, the stickman pushes the dice to the shooter with a long stick and calls every result, and the dealers settle the bets. Because a whole table can win together on one roll, craps is famous as the loudest game on the floor, and also one of the fastest. The number of bets on offer means new players are wise to learn the basics first.

Craps in an online lobby

Craps is most popular in North America and rarely anchors a lobby elsewhere, but a well-presented RNG or live craps table rounds out the table games section for players who know it well.
