A suit is one of the four groups that make up a standard 52-card deck: clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds. Each suit contains one card of every rank, from the deuce up to the ace, including the face cards, which gives thirteen cards per suit.
You will hear the word most at the poker table. When a player says they had “ace-king suited”, they mean both cards belonged to the same suit, for example the ace and king of spades, or the ace and king of hearts. Suited cards matter because hands such as the flush and the royal flush are built entirely on matching suits.
Suits in table game design
Many RNG and live table games add suit-based side bets, such as suited pairs in blackjack or flush bonuses in poker variants. These usually carry a different house edge from the main bet, so compare each version’s paytable when choosing which games to offer.
