Three of a kind is a poker hand made up of three cards of the same rank, such as three sevens. The suits of those cards don’t matter at all; only the matching rank counts.
In Texas Hold’em each player is dealt just two cards, so making three of a kind always requires at least one community card. Sometimes two or even all three matching cards appear on the board, giving everyone at the table the hand automatically. Many players treat that situation with caution, mainly because three of a kind on the board makes a full house or quads far more likely for somebody else. Players also call the hand trips.
Three of a kind beyond the poker room
The hand also pays in video poker games such as Jacks or Better and in many house-banked poker variants. Paytables differ from title to title, so compare them when deciding which versions to offer.
