Fifth Street in poker: the fifth card explained

Fifth street is a poker term whose meaning depends on the variant. In community-card games such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha, it is the fifth and final card dealt face up on the board, far better known as the river. Once it is out, players have every card they will get, and the final betting round follows.

In seven-card stud there is no board. Fifth street is the third betting round, played after each player receives their fifth card, dealt face up. At that point each player shows three up cards next to two hole cards. In many fixed-limit stud games, the bet size doubles from fifth street onwards, which makes it a key decision point.

Street by street

Online poker records every street separately in hand histories. That helps players review their decisions and helps security teams look for collusion.
