Comp Points explained: how casino loyalty points work

Comp points, short for complimentary points, are loyalty points a casino awards for real-money play. Every bet earns points at a set rate, and the rate usually depends on the game: slots often earn faster than low-margin table games. Players redeem points for bonus money, free spins or shop items online, and for meals, rooms and other perks in land-based venues.

Points also move players up the tiers of a VIP programme, where better conversion rates, faster withdrawals or a personal manager may be waiting. Because earn and burn rules differ from one casino to the next, they are normally set out in the loyalty programme terms.

Comp points as a retention tool

Comp points are one of the most controllable rewards an operator has. The cost is set by the earn rate, the redemption rate and which games contribute, and all three can be tuned per game category or player segment in a bonus and loyalty engine.
