Casino Glossary

Rating meaning in casino gaming

Rating is how a land-based casino measures a player’s value to the business. When a player joins a table or a slot session with a loyalty card, staff or the system record the average bet, the time played, the games chosen and, at tables, the speed of play. These numbers produce a theoretical loss figure, which decides the complimentary rewards, or comps, the player qualifies for, from free meals to hotel rooms.

Ratings build up with each visit, so regular customers can climb loyalty tiers over time. Online casinos rate players automatically: the back office tracks stakes, game mix and deposits in real time, and the same data drives VIP management, comp points and bonus eligibility. Operators should also use it to flag risky patterns for their responsible gambling teams.
